Rosehip Oil - A potent yet gentle, natural source of Retinol

Rosehip Oil - A potent yet gentle, natural source of Retinol

Retinol, a derivative of Vitamin A, has garnered significant acclaim in the skincare industry for its concentrated anti-aging properties. This powerful ingredient works by accelerating cell turnover and stimulating collagen production, which helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

Additionally, studies have demonstrated that Retinol can improve skin texture and tone, making it a versatile solution for various skin concerns. Its ability to penetrate deep into the skin layers ensures long-lasting results, promoting a youthful and radiant complexion.

However, there has been 'bad' press alongside the miracle claims with reports that some of the synthetic Retinol creams available have caused skin sensitivity, especially for those new to its use. Common side effects include redness, peeling, dryness, and irritation and outbreaks of spots.  In addition to this the products containing high concentrations of synthetic Retinol can increase skin sensitivity to the sun, so doubling up with a sunscreen barrier is essential.

The alternatives to expensive synthetic Retinol creams?  Rosehip oil.  This beautiful rich oil is a natural, yet gentle source of Retinol and it's one of the first base oils that I fell in love with and began to use in my facial formulations.

Extracted from the seeds of wild rose bushes this potent oil is celebrated for its ability to promote healthy, glowing skin. Before 'retinol' was even discovered in the lab, people had been using Rosehip oil extract for centuries as the improved effects to skin texture that this oil garnered were renowned. The retinol in rosehip oil helps to accelerate skin regeneration, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improve overall skin texture. Additionally, it is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, which aid in hydrating the skin and protecting it from environmental damage. Ideal for those seeking a natural alternative to synthetic retinol products, rosehip oil is a versatile and gentle solution for rejuvenating the skin and we LOVE using it in our formulations at Bloom.

You can find Rosehip oil in our Revive Skincare Range, but it is in the highest concentration in our skin smoothing Nightly Revive Face Oil - available here.  Other ingredients in this complex and luxurious product include:

  • Squalene extract - from olive oil.  This natural compound found in various plants, animals, and in human sebum itself, is acclaimed for its skin-boosting properties, particularly in enhancing collagen production. Collagen is a vital protein that maintains skin's elasticity and firmness, and its production tends to diminish with age, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin.
  • Argan Oil -  Packed with Vitamin E and Coenzyme Q10, another amazing antioxidant compound that is naturally found in the human body and plays a crucial role in cellular energy production. In skincare, CoQ10 is celebrated for its ability to combat the visible signs of aging. As we age, the levels of CoQ10 in our skin decrease, which can contribute to the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Using ingredients that contain naturally occuring CoQ10 into skincare products helps to boost collagen production, reduce oxidative stress, and enhance skin cell regeneration.
  • Jojoba oil - Extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant, this natural oil is rich in vitamins E and B, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, making it an excellent moisturizer that mimics the skin's natural sebum and maintains healthy balance
  • Evening Primrose Oil - This oil contains a high concentration of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that contributes to healthy skin. Known for its anti-inflammatory and moisturizing, and antioxidant properties which can protect against environmental damage and support overall skin health.
  • Avocado Oil - with a rich content of vitamins, antioxidants, and healthy fats,  this oil is packed with vitamins A, D, and E, which are essential for maintaining healthy skin. Additionally, the monounsaturated fats in avocado oil deeply moisturize the skin, enhancing its natural barrier and preventing moisture loss. This makes it an excellent choice for those with aging skincare.  In addition the anti-oxidants help protect the skin against free radical and environmental damage
